Reed Larson continues his coaching career with the Thunderhawk Football Team with 18 plus years of high school coaching experience, coaching football, golf, track and field, and hockey. Before coming back home to Grand Rapids, Reed coached as an assistant football coach at Willmar High School serving as a defense / linebacker coach for 2 seasons, while also serving as the boys hockey coach for 7 years, assistant track coach for 3 years and JV golf coach for 4 years. He found his way back to the northland when he accepted a high school hockey coaching position at Virginia High School. He served there for 7 years as head boys hockey coach and served as boys golf coach for two years.
Reed graduated from Grand Rapids High School in the spring of 1997, he was a three sport athlete, playing football, hockey, and track, Reed was part of the 1994 Grand Rapids High School Football Team that played in the State Football Tournament reaching the State semi-finals. After graduating from High School he attended the University of Minnesota - Duluth where he played football for one season. The next season Reed transitioned back into the hockey world where he played junior hockey for the Bismarck Bobcats of the NAHL. He returned to College the next year (1999) at the University of Wisconsin -Superior where he finished his undergraduate degree in physical education and played college hockey for 3 1/2 seasons. Reed was a member of the UW - Superior men's hockey team that won the 2002 NCAA Division III National Ice Hockey Championship.
Reed now is the proud husband of wife Wendy and he is overjoyed to be teaching and coaching at his alma mater. Look for Reed in the field as the defensive coordinator of the junior varsity football team and up in the booth helping the varsity football team as a linebacker coach.
